White German
Does anyone know of any problems with black or white german sheppards?
We own a 9 month old white female boxer who has maxed out at about 52lbs. Would a female/male german sheppard get along with a well trained boxer? I mean do german sheppards do well with other dogs like a boxer?
I have a 1year old Black GSD I got from a rescue service and he has bilateral hip dysplasia and it was a genetic thing. Amazingly, he's the most loyal dog I've ever had. Get's around pretty well, but I'm getting an FHO on his left hip next month then the right hip a year from then.
I think these types of dogs are more prone to problems because they are rare and stupid people breed them over and over and the parents have problems to begin with and therefore the offspring have problems and the breeders continue to neglect these issues because they make money. I wouldn't get one unless it was by a breeder who's respectable and definitely certified with parents who are free of hip problems.

Nervous condition with white german shepperd connected to eating?
My white german Shepard, 18 months, b1tch, has never eaten properly is this linked to a condition?
she will not eat dry food, will not eat tinned food, she will eat cooked hearts, cooked chicken, in small amounts. I have six cats does this contribute to the eating problem? *has been to the vets
Get with it - your GSD knows more about food than you and the other indoctrinated fans of kibbles do!
Nor is COOKED meat the proper diet, although it is better than NO meat.
Cooking makes meat & veges suitable for us to digest, but at the cost of denaturing many of the vitamins.
Dogs are very adaptable, and most can survive on kibbles. But surviving is not the same as thriving. (And then there is the GDV-bloat problem that went from almost nil when kibbles were unknown then escalated during the 35 year period in which kibbles became almost universal. Dogs are canids. Canids are carnivores. Carnivores have a digestive system perfectly evolved for raw animal protein - birds, eggs, fish, insects, mammals, reptiles - whether fresh-killed or carrion.
They lack the enzymes to break down the cellulose walls of vegetation, and they lack the enzymes to digest the plant proteins inside those walls. And even if they had those enzymes, their gut is too short to give the enzymes time to work.
So the ideal diet for your bitch is raw meat on-the-bone, supplemented by cooked table scraps (except for fish-needles and baked/roasted bones) as available (if none are available, because your household doesn't eat healthily, use dog-biscuits or even kibble).
If she doesn't enjoy the meat (once she gets over her possible initial suspicion of strange material) then you need to have her checked for such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Canned foods have just 2 uses:
(1) For when travelling with your dog.
(2) For when the dog's appetite is depressed after an operation.
I don't even use them as "emergency because I've run out of thawed meat" meals - I prefer to go buy a 3kg dog sausage.
Not counting the petrol to 3 or 4 times cross the mountain to the meat works, and not counting the electricity to keep the 2 deep freezers running, last year I fed my GSDs for NZ$367 each - that would be about US$222.
My current oldest is 14½ and still sound and healthy, albeit stone deaf and preferring to spend most of her days & nights just sleeping. Since her booster at 16 weeks she has seen vets for only bites inflicted by her cousins, plus simultaneous pyometritis and peritonitis at about 10 years old - the emergency spaying has contributed to her being incontinent if not medicated twice a day (she doesn't like the squirt into her mouth but is keen for the small piece of dog sausage she gets afterwards to "take the taste away").
GSDs are NOT supposed to be heavy (nor large) - go to the above group's "Links" then "Size & Weight". GSDs are supposed to be in the same hard, wiry condition as a human who is a champion marathon runner.
The cats won't contribute to the problem unless her tummy is full from eating one or two. My pack will kill a stray cat, but won't eat it.
And PLEASE learn what breed you have. You had 2 different attempts at naming it, and BOTH were wrong. Although her white colour is not wanted by shepherds or security guards, etc, your bit.ch is from the breed developed to HERD sheep in the German boundary-patrolling way, and so the breed's name is German Shepherd Dog, a direct translation of the real name, deutsche Schäferhund. And as there are 3 words, in English it needs 3 capital letters.
