Will I ever play soccer again? Knee Injury: "Myxoid degeneration in lateral meniscus"?

The MRI's summary states that my left knee has "Myxoid degeneration in the anterior horn of lateral meniscus with joint effusion". I hurt it in a soccer game 6 months ago, it doesn't hurt now but I haven't put the knee to the test. I'm 25yrs old and quite fit. The doctor painted a grim picture, does anyone have any experience of this? Will I be able to play soccer again?

Jimmy Bullard's Horrible Knee Injury

Soccer knee injury, I injured the inside of my knee when i player ran straight through my leg, what the cause?

In my game i was dribbling the ball and just got it off before the defender came in, but as he went through my leg was extended out, and he ran straight through it. My knee from what i remember had a small click or pop. It swelled immediately. The pain is on the inside of the knee but i can't pin point where its essentially through the whole inside but nowhere else.I can walk but not without pain, and extending my leg straight results in some discomfort. What would be the cause of the pain, ligaent damage, just a banged knee or what? please help..

You definitely tore a ligament - go to the hospital! They will give you an MRI and be able to tell you which one. I tore both my ACLs and I've always described it as a "pop" sound. You can still walk after tearing a ligament, but your knee is probably swollen and buckles sometimes when you walk, right? It's a terrible injury, but the quicker you get to the hospital, the less damage you will cause your knee. If you keep walking/playing on it, you will tear the surrounding cartilage and/or another ligament. Once the cartilage is gone, the doctors don't have much to work with and the damage will be permanent. If you get surgery on the ligament, you can do about 6 months of physical therapy to fully recover. I tore mine 6 months apart, and was out of soccer for a while, but I went on to play 2 years of varsity soccer in high school, and a year varsity in college before joining the university soccer club. I've never had a problem since. You will be fine, but you have to suck it up and get to the doctor or you may lose the opportunity for a full recovery!
I hope there's a chance I'm wrong, but the way you described it is exactly what happened to me both times.
Good luck!
