Network with 2 adapters with seven and xp wont work?
Hi, i have a computer with 2 adapters running on Windows XP and i want to configure a network to share internet to another computer, connecting then both directly. The other computer is running with Windows Seven Pro.
Here is how i did it:
Windows XP
Adapter #1 - ICS
Adapter #2 - IP 192.168.0.1
Mask 255.255.255.0
Windows Seven
Adapter #1 - IP 192.168.0.2
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1
They are correctly connected (windows doesnt present any kind of error) but i cant see or use shared folders, print or internet. Windows seven says that the problem is with DNS (its not valid or something), all the configurations on seven ae properly activated (home group sharing options). But it just wont work...
ps: of course the cables, and all physical parts are good.
Any ideas?
PS: I am using ADSL, maybe i should call my ISP and tell my problem?
I dont think you should use 192.168.0.1 as your DNS. Try using another public dns server. 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 come to mind. Your computer at 192.168.0.1 cant translate names to ip, and doesnt use itself as a DNS server more than likely.

Whenever my laptop restarts from standby my WIFI connection becomes disabled. Anything I can do to prevent it?
When I opt to repair, it does re-acquire a network address, but Outpost blocks most of my connection to the Internet unless I disable then re-enable it. Is there's any section in the free Outpost where I can create a rule for ICS or is that only on the pro-version?
Look in your laptops power saving program (exapmle dell-quickset). It is usally a setting that disables the wireless/NIC to conserve power. Good Luck.
